J. Robert Warren and his associate J.
Robert Lane, Jr. welcome you to peruse the website. Mr. Warren and Mr. Lane
have spent a lifetime devoted to history, historic preservation, and the study
of antiques and the historic landscape.
Presently, they serve
as consultants for the Bellamy Mansion Museum (Wilmington, NC), an affiliate of
Preservation North Carolina. Recently, they were consultants for St. James
Episcopal Church (Wilmington, NC) for its 275th Anniversary project,
preservation and restoration of the church reredos. They developed the concept
for the Old Wilmington by Candlelight tour of homes in 1974 and fostered its
continuance with Mr. Warren as chairman and Mr. Lane as house chairman for the
Latimer House Museum for eleven years. The tour continues today under the
auspices of the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society.
J. Robert Warren, BA,
MA, ISA AM, has a background in antiques, history, and education. He has served
as President of Preservation North Carolina, Residents of Old Wilmington, Lower
Cape Fear Historical Society, Friends of Stagville Center Corp., Executive
Director of the Historic Wilmington Tour, member of NC Maritime History Council,
Consultant to Hot, Rhinehart & Winston, CBS Inc., and member of Wilmington's
250th Anniversary Commission and Wilmington's Sister City Commission. "History
in Towns, Wilmington, NC" (requested by Wendell Garrett and published in THE
MAGAZINE ANTIQUES) is one of several publications that he has written. Honors
include Tar Heel of the Week (Raleigh News and Observer), Clarendon Cup for
historical writing, Canon Award from Preservation NC (NC highest preservation
award) among others. Mr. Warren was chosen as a participant in the Stratford
Hall-Monticello Seminars, has done Masters study in field archaeology in
Barbados. Studies included work at UNC, USC, UNCW, & UVA.
J. Robert Lane, Jr.
held a career in visual merchandizing and design. His studies have covered art,
history, and antiques with a major in art. Mr. Lane has served as consultant
for numerous historically related projects. He has served as President of the
Moore's Creek National Battleground Association, Vice President of the Lower
Cape Fear Historical Society, Vice President of the Sons of the Revolution in
the State of NC, officer in the Sons of the American Revolution, as well as
numerous other entities. His interest in historic landscape architecture and
heirloom plants has been shared with many individuals and organizations. He has
presented various programs such as "Foodways of the 18th and 19th Centuries" for
numerous organizations.
Both Mr. Warren and Mr.
Lane are tenth generation North Carolinians, members of the First Families of
North Carolina, and avid supporters of preserving our Southern Heritage.
